New Delhi: In a letter to the Home Ministry, the Delhi Police has claimed that the mob including Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers incited Gajendra Singh to commit suicide at a party rally in Delhi. The letter also claims that untrained volunteers climbed the tree which led to Gajendra falling off.
The report states that AAP volunteers and leaders were clapping and raising slogans which incited him to engage in more dangerous acts. It also adds on to say that though police requested AAP volunteers to stop provoking him through clapping and solganeering, neither the volunteers nor the leaders present on the state acceeded to the request info.
It has also reiterated how AAP had been asked to shift the venue but they stood firm on their stand and held the rally at Jantar Mantar. The letter was written on when AAP was scheduled to hold the rally. The FIR filed by the Delhi Police charges AAP leaders with abetment and obstruction.
Meanwhile, Gajendra's autopsy report said that he died due to hanging. According to Sources, the Delhi Police received the full postmortem report on Tuesday evening. There were several bruises on Gajendra's body due to his fall from the tree. His viscera samples have been sent for further analysis.
Sources have said that the investigators have found two witnesses who claim that Singh was instigated to climb the tree. Sources also added that police are still ascertaining the facts and verifying the eyewitness account and are also scanning television channel footage to corroborate the statements.
While sources indicate that initial probe hinted towards the death being an accident, Singh's family alleged a conspiracy and blamed the AAP for the tragic incident. The Delhi Police has named AAP leaders in its FIR for abetting suicide.
In a tragic turn of events, Singh committed suicide on April 22 at AAP's anti-Land Bill rally in Delhi's Jantar Mantar. Singh climbed a neem tree near the AAP rally venue, tied a piece of cloth around his neck and the other was tied on a branch and then jumped. Even though AAP volunteers tried to stop the farmer from committing the act, brought him down from the tree and rushed him to a hospital but he could not be saved.
According to the FIR, AAP workers and supporters abetted the suicide of Singh. Investigators said their probe reveals that AAP workers stopped police from sending the victim to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital while insisting that he was a party member and should not be taken in police van which resulted in considerable delay.
