Mumbai: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activists are on a rampage in Kalyan following the arrest of their party chief Raj Thackeray early on Tuesday morning.
Two buses have been set on fire and the violence is mostly concentrated near Kalyan city.
Many MNS workers are out on the roads with rods and stones in their hands. Police also lathicharged MNS workers at some places to restore order.
IBN7 cameraman Sachin Pednekar was also beaten up by the mob and has been admitted to the Rukmini Hospital.
Raj was arrested on charges of rioting in Kherwadi, where on Sunday MNS workers attacked outstation candidates appearing for a railway board examination to protest “inadequate representation” of the locals.
But even before Raj was arrested, MNS activists went on a rampage in Mumbai late on Monday night attacking around 30 taxis at various locations in Parel and Mumbai Central.
A check-post in Mulund was also reportedly put on fire by MNS activists.
