Lending credence to the speculation that there is disagreement among the members of the ministerial committee set up to look into the Congress’ debacle in the bypolls, the committee on Saturday once again postponed submission of its primary report to the party state leadership to July 25.
The committee was supposed to submit its primary report to chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana on Saturday. But squabbles among the members of the committee are said to be the reason for the delay in finalisation and submission of the report.
It is learnt that apart from committee chairman Dharmana Prasada Rao, some members are of the opinion that organisational lapses, flaws in implementation of welfare schemes and anti-establishment vote are the main reasons for the party’s humiliating drubbing. They feel that apart from filling nominated posts and constituting party committees, taking corrective measures like rectifying the flaws in the welfare schemes are suffice to put the state Congress back on rails.
But, sources say, some other members such as finance minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy feel that instead of taking token measures to strengthen the party, a thorough study at the grass root level is needed to find the real reasons for pathetic state of the Congress in the state. They also feel that the government should introduce tailor-made welfare schemes to suit the needs of alienated sections of voters so as to woo them back to the Congress’ fold.
