THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Better plan an indoor New Year bash.Otherwise you may get drenched on the new year-eve.Though cyclone Thane has weakened and crossed Tamil Nadu, the state is likely to get thundershowers on Saturday under its influence.The Meteorological Department here has predicted scattered rainfall in the state on Friday and Saturday.“Places such as Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode will get isolated thundershowers on Friday and Saturday under the influence of the cyclone,” Met Director K Santhosh said.According to cyclone bulletin issued by IMD, the severe cyclonic storm Thane over north Tamil Nadu near Cuddalore has moved further westward and weakened rapidly into a deep depression and lay centered around 100 km west of Cuddalore by 11.30 am on Friday.The system is likely to move westwards and weaken further.Met has predicted isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over north Kerala during the next 24 hours.Sunny days are expected from Sunday.Meanwhile, North East monsoon has been weak in the state.Since the season began in October, the state received only 418.4 mm rainfall against the normal rate of 479.This is 13 per cent deficient.The North East Monsoon season is likely to end in a couple of weeks
