KOCHI: The Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Society of India (ARDSI) organised dementia awareness memory walk in connection with World Alzheimer’s Day here on Wednesday. The volunteers of ARDSI performed a street play to create awareness about the syndrome and the disease. Students from over 15 colleges participated in the memory walk from Rajendra Maidan to Marine Drive. Jacob Roy, founder chairman of ARDSI, delivered the official message, while the pledge was given by Anil Joseph, secretary, ARDSI. “Only 20 percent of people are aware of the disease and we are trying to make it to 75 percent,” said project officer Babu Varghese. “The common form of dementia is Alzheimer’s. Our community is not prepared to face the disease,” Dr S Shaji of ARDSI said. “At present, there is no proper treatment for the disease. The quality of life of the patient can be improved through better care,” he said.
