BANGALORE: Students and relatives of Pranay Singh, a second semester B E (E&C) student of PES Institute of Technology who committed suicide, staged a protest on the college campus on Wednesday too. Pranay had committed suicide at his hostel room on Tuesday, as he allegedly could not handle the academic pressure.Anushka and Ayesha, cousins of Pranay, along with the student fraternity, demanded the management of PESIT to reply to all wrong reports which have appeared in the media. The students were upset as a section of media at Patna too portrayed Pranay to be a drug addict and said he was also involved in a triangular love affair.The students laid seize to college demanding the management to address the electronic media live and clarify that the deceased was not a drug addict. After all the high drama, the management and the students calmly settled in the college auditorium in the presence of media.Prof D Jawahar, CEO, PES Institutions, said “Pranay has been falsely represented by some newspapers. Neither was he a drug addict nor involved in love affair. Media have wrongly reported on him. We have no records to say that he was a drug addict. His academic performance was above average. We term it a failure on the part of authorities.” Apologising to Pranay’s family and students, he said, “We will place advertisements in all leading newspapers here and at Patna clarifying that Pranay was not a drug addict and did not misbehave.”The students alleged that “Since our college is autonomous, we have a different syllabus and we are finding it difficult. Also, we are not provided enough time to prepare for tests. The exams are conducted very strictly.”Meanwhile, the body of Pranay was taken to his home town Patna.
