KOCHI: Kerala High Court Acting Chief Justice C N Ramachandran Nair has said that judiciary and media play common role in the society as both are engaged in efforts for wiping out corruption and evils in the society.He was speaking after inaugurating the function organised by Thapasya Kala Sahitya Vedi to present V M Korath award to senior journalist T V R Shenoy in Kochi on Friday. He said that there was a trend among media organisations yielding to vestedinterests. “Incidents in which mediapersons allegedly involved in lobbying for vested interests have emerged recently. However, media continue to serve as watchdogs. These days, those who are engaged in corrupt activities are afraid of being exposed as they are aware of the fact that they are under the strict surveillance of the media” the Chief Justice said.Justice Ramachandran Nair presented the V M Korath Award to T V R Shenoy. Speaking after receiving the award, Shenoy said that new generation journalists were showing the courage to say that it was not rope, but snake in the dark room. “If they commit any mistake, it is because of ignorance. That can be rectified through education,” Shenoy said. He said that the award amount of ` 1 lakh would be donated to Bala Vyasa Mandiram coming up at Kalpi, the birthplace of Vyasan in Uttar Pradesh.Poet P Narayana Kurup presided over the function. Janmabhoomi chief editor Hari S Kartha introduced the award winner. Senior journalist K M Roy delivered the commemorative lecture on V M Korath. Poet S Ramesan Nair, Kerala Press Academy chairman N P Rajendran ,Janmabhoomi editor Leela Menon, Balagokulam founder M A Krishnan and C G Rajagopal of Samskar Bharati spoke.Poet S Ramesan Nair, who won Asan award recently was honoured at the function. M A Krishnan, founder of Balagokulam wrapped him with a ponnada.
