CHENNAI:  The Madrs High Court has directed the Medical Education Director and the Selection Committee to admit a student in the first year MBBS course in any one of the government medical colleges for 201112.
M Sathish Kumar, the first graduate to be in his family and belonging to a most backward community was found eligible by the selection committee to attend the first phase of counselling held from June 30 to July 6 last as he had secured the cutoff mark of 196.50. As no call letter was sent to him and no internet facility was available in Chellamudi in Pennagaram taluk in Dharmapuri district, Sathish Kumar was not aware of the first counselling. When he sought to include his name in the second counselling, the committee rejected his plea. Hence, the present writ petition.Allowing the petition, Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar referred to a judgment dated July 7 this year, in which Justice D Hariparanthaman had held that even if photo copies of certificates were not enclosed by a candidate by inadvertence or otherwise and if she/he was otherwise meritorious, she/he was entitled to get admission.
