THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Corporation Council once again slipped over the roller-skating episode when it met here on Friday. The UDF leaders said in the Council that the Mayor had misled the Council regarding the issue. While the case was registered only in June, the Mayor had in the council meeting in May referred to a pending case on the issue. However, the Mayor said that it was with all the necessary documents that she had spoken in the Council regarding the case before the Ombudsman.A stretch of road in the Kowdiar ward was set aside for roller-skating training and was approved by the previous Council led by Jayan Babu. However, when the new Council came to power, the concept was rejected. Later, a high-level team was appointed to consider the feasibility of the idea. The Mayor herself had visited the spot and assessed that it was not feasible. In May, when the issue came up before the Council, the Mayor had said that there was a case pending before the Ombudsman, because of which the matter was kept in abeyance. It is this statement which the UDF challenged on Friday, saying that Chandrika had misled the Council. The UDF and the LDF members trooped to the floor and created a din, which ended when the Mayor finally announced that the meeting was cancelled. For the nth time, the Corporation Council saw a heated discussion over the Kudumbashree issue on Friday, while approving the division of the city into four zones ahead of the Kudumbashree governing bodies election slated for December. The row began when the UDF pointed out the way the zones have been divided, deviating from the way chosen by the Election Commission. Instead of throwing the numbered wards as it is, the Corporation had randomly  picked out wards to fall into a zone. UDF member Nedumam Mohan and many others pointed out that since the Election Commission has already set a numbering system, the Corporation ought to have followed it.LDF members, however, said that the zonal division was done to bring adjacent wards under one umbrella. They argued that it was the best thing to do for the officials and for the units themselves as there were many units which shared borders of two wards. The LDF members went ahead to say that the decision of the government to extend the elections to the Kudumbashree has set in motion serious doubts regarding the commitment of the government to the Kudumbashree Mission. The Congress wants to pump money into Janasree, which is why it is trying to derail the Kudumbashree movement, they alleged. A din followed the statement and UDF councillors said that they have not played politics in dealing with CDS in their respective wards.Concluding the discussion, Mayor Chandrika said that the Council would inform the government about its concern regarding the postponement of elections.
