Maoists are using caves in forests of south Chhattisgarh as hide-outs or temporary camps, police said on Sunday after raiding one such cave in Kanker district.
Maoist propaganda material, medicines and commodities of daily use were recovered from a cave in Mashpur forest under Rowghat police station limits by a joint team of district police and BSF (Border Security Force) on Sunday, SP, Kanker, RN Dash told PTI.
For the first time, police had come across such a cave camp, he said.
"Now, police are mapping all the caves that can be used as hideouts by the ultras," Dash said.
Mashpur forests are about 250 km from here. Rebels in the cave escaped sensing arrival of security forces, the SP said.
Some documents recovered in the camp revealed that six senior Maoists including Foolsingh and Sarita died in an encounter with police in Keshkal area of Kondagaon district last year, he said.
