BANGALORE: For Mohammad Salman (14) and his younger brother Mohammed Farqon it was supposed to be just another day. Instead, they saw a horrifying event unfold at their home in Kausar Nagar near Dharmaraya Swamy Temple Street on Thursday morning. As they were getting ready for school, they saw their father stabbing their mother and then jumping to his own death.Their father Afsar Pasha (45) and mother Gul Nawaz Khanum (42) had been married for 14 years but were living separately since the last eight years.Narrating the incident, Salman, a Class IX student said, “My father came with a knife and a bottle of poison in his hands. He hurled abuses at my mother and when she protested, he tried to stab her with the knife.But my younger brother Mohammed Farqon brought his school bag between my mother and the knife. My dad slapped him and stabbed mom in her stomach and face.” “As my mom collapsed, my dad consumed poison which he had brought and jumped from the first floor.By this time, some of the neighbours had gathered and took both of them to the hospital. Later, we were told my dad was dead,” the boy explained.While their father did not survive the jump, their mother has been admitted to the Bowring Hospital.Gul Nawaz Khanum was working as a teacher at a school for orphans in R T Nagar while her husband, Afsar had quit his job as a lab assistant at a college. He was reportedly addicted to alcohol and gambling.Zubeda Begum, Khanum’s mother alleged that her sonin- law used to harass her daughter when they were together.
