A tractor driver was murdered by a gang of five men over a trivial issue at Vaddarapalya near Begalli in Bannerghatta on Saturday night.
The deceased identified as, Venkateshppa alias Venkataswamy, 36, hailed from Hosur.
The accused are identified as Abbaiah 29, Nagaraju 45, Venkatesh Murthy, 58; the other two Ramesh and Manja-have managed to escape.
Police said on last Friday, Abbaiah, a local goon had picked up a quarrel with Venkateshappa, accusing him of stealing his cellphone.
Abbaiah had even snatched Venkateshappa’s mobile.
On Saturday night, Abbaiah, in an inebriated state, sent his four associates to bring Venkateshappa to his house.
In the melee, his aides assaulted Venkateshappa’s brother-in-law Jaganath, who tried to stop them.
Abbaiah along with his men thrashed Venkateshappa and smashed his head with a hoe.
He sustained severe injuries and died while shifting to hospital, the police said.
It is said that Jaganath’s condition is serious.
The Bannerghatta police have registered a case in this connection
