Man jumps on Metro track in Delhi, commits suicide

New Delhi: A middle-aged man on Sunday allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a Metro train at a Metro station near Seelampur in north-east Delhi.

The incident took place at 1719 hrs IST at a Metro station when a man jumped on the track when a Metro from Shastri Park was entering the platform, a Metro spokesperson said.

The man died on the spot. The identity of the deceased has yet not been ascertained.

The Metro spokesperson said the driver tried to apply brakes when he saw a man coming in front of the train but “before he could apply brakes, the man was run over by the train”.

Following the incident, train services between Seelampur and Shastri Park were disrupted for 15 minutes and resumed at around 1745 hrs IST.

The body has been handed over to the police and they are investigating the incident, the spokesperson said.
