Maharashtra Raises No-Tender Contract Limit to Rs 10 Lakh for Unemployed Service Organisations
The increase is expected to lead to a significant rise in the number of projects undertaken by these organisations, thereby generating more employment opportunities for the state's unemployed youth

In a landmark move aimed at boosting employment and supporting unemployed service organisations across Maharashtra, the state government has raised the limit for work contracts that can be awarded without a tender process. The ceiling has been increased from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, according to an announcement made by Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Maharashtra’s minister for skills, employment, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

Lodha emphasised the critical importance of the decision in the broader strategy of employment generation within the state. He said, “Under the visionary leadership of chief minister Eknath Shinde, deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, the government has remained steadfast in its commitment to creating diverse employment opportunities through the Skill Development department. Initiatives like the Maharojgar Melava, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Employment Fair, and the Chief Minister’s Youth Work Training Scheme have been instrumental in addressing unemployment and enhancing skill development across the state.”

Expounding on the significance of the new policy, the minister said, “Today’s announcement is a continuation of our efforts to foster employment generation. By raising the no-tender contract limit to Rs 10 lakh, we are providing unemployed service organisations the means to expand their operational capabilities, take on more substantial projects, and ultimately contribute to job creation. This decision is not merely about increasing the financial threshold; it is about empowering these organisations to play a more pivotal role in Maharashtra’s economic development. This initiative is set to pave the way for a more prosperous and employment-rich Maharashtra.”

At the end of 2023, Maharashtra was home to over 2,000 active unemployed service organisations, comprising more than 35,000 members. Despite their significant role in various sectors, these organisations have traditionally secured fewer work contracts, largely due to the lower financial cap on no-tender projects. This restriction has often limited their ability to undertake larger and more impactful projects. Recognising this challenge, the organisations have long advocated for an increase in the no-tender limit, which has now been addressed through the government’s latest decision.

This increase in the no-tender limit is expected to lead to a significant rise in the number of projects undertaken by these organisations, thereby generating more employment opportunities for the state’s unemployed youth. By facilitating greater participation of these organisations in state-sponsored projects, the government aims to more effectively harness their potential, ensuring that the benefits of this policy change reach every corner of Maharashtra.

This decision marks a significant step forward in the government’s ongoing efforts to support unemployed service organisations and contribute to the overall socio-economic development of the state.
