Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan's wife Sadhna Singh is richer than her husband, according to details of assets filed in the state Assembly.
Chouhan does not own a car. The Chief Minister's assets — worth Rs 3.78 million — are less than the assets owned by his wife, which totals Rs 5.73 million. He tabled detail of assets possessed by him and his family in the Assembly on Friday.
The move is seen as a bid to counter former chief minister Digvijay Singh's charge that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government lacked transparency.
Digvijay Singh on Thursday said the BJP ministers were not following the tradition set during the previous Congress government to submit details of the property owned by all ministers in the Assembly.
Chouhan has a Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) policy with Rs 6,616 as annual premium, his two sons have LIC policies with Rs 10,610 annual premium, National Saving Certificates worth Rs 60,000, gold ornaments weighing 64 gm, household goods worth Rs 180,000 and bank deposits of Rs 785,000.
