THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Low-floor AC buses under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) will be the first to ply from the new bus stand at Enchakkal from Saturday, KSRTC officials said. The new arrangement will reduce congestion in the city, especially in the East Fort area, they said. Transport Minister V S Sivakumar had announced last week that low-floor buses would begin their services from Enchakkal from Saturday.According to KSRTC officials, many of the low-floor AC bus services that start from East Fort will do so from the new facility. Some of them will continue to touch East Fort for the convenience of commuters. The KSRTC has not, however, prepared any fresh schedules for the new arrangement. In future, non-AC low-floor buses also could start their trips from Enchakkal, but no decision has been taken regarding it now.For some years now, the KSRTC has been proposing to move the city bus station to Enchakkal to reduce the congestion in East Fort area, where the present one is situated. But the project had been delayed for years.
