The association is protesting against the life tax for tourist vehicles that cost more than Rs 10 lakh. The association had gone on a strike in April this year and had called off the strike after assurances received from the transport commissioner and deputy chief minister R Ashok.“He had assured us that the lifetime tax will be revised. But they have failed to implement the same. This is the reason we will be going on an indefinite strike again,” explained president of Federation of Karnataka State Lorry Owners’ and Agents Association G R Shanmugappa. The government had assured that in the next monsoon, the life time tax will be revised and annual tax system will be implemented.  Since this issue has not come up in the monsoon session announcement, the association has urged for discussion on the same. “In the state, almost 90 per cent of the cab operators are self employed and  most have a single vehicles. We are not able to pay such a huge amount. We have been serving for state tourism, to enhance the state exchequer and GDP level.
