New Delhi: Director Vikramaditya Motwane's much awaited period romance 'Lootera', starring Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha, has won the pre-release session via fantastic trailers and innovative marketing, but the real test of the film will take place at the theatres. The reputation earned by Motwane after 'Udaan' gives the audience a hope for another well crafted film.
Use of technology: Vikramaditya is known for his fascination for the latest techniques used in filmmaking. The colours and the background stood out in 'Udaan' and the trailers of 'Lootera' appear promising, so we can expect a detailed storytelling. Vikramaditya also knows this, "I have spent a lot of time and money on learning technology, it was not the digital era yet and I did photography on film cameras. Be it the earlier laptops or cameras, I was always very fascinated with technology. Apart from preferring film over digital in my films, I have used technically upgraded sound recording systems, so I use the technology to push the envelope."
Authenticity: Period films are rare in the Hindi film industry and they are not devoid of flaws when it comes to setting the premise. We have seen a strange vehicle in the backdrop of a prominent period film of recent times when the camera rides high on a crane. Language is always a tedious thing to handle as Bengalis speaking strange Hindi is a regular sight in our films, so the director will have to come up with a fine tuned language in order to win the audience's heart.
Visuals and background score: The music that plays in the background of the trailers is definitely haunting but it may overpower the visuals. Only the perfectly blended visuals and background score can ensure a prolonged attention span.
Character artists: Of course, all eyes will be on the lead pair but an intense love story requires a powerful supporting cast which can allow the narration to blossom by getting subdued at the right moment. Everything from their over-the-top reactions to twisted lips will matter. Shirin Guha, who is playing a pivotal character called Devyani in 'Lootera', understands the accuracy required, "The theme is love and I would like to add the 'vintage era' too. I'm playing Devyani who is Pakhi's (sonakshi) best friend. Pakhi shares all her secrets with Devyani. I am more than happy and pleased to be associated with such a big and classy project as a debutant."
Motwane's treatment of supporting actors will make a huge difference. "Vikramaditya Motwane is extremely clear in vision, tremendously perfectionist, he celebrates work. Sonakshi and Ranveer are also very professional, co operative and down to earth. 'Lootera' is going to be a part of the Indian film history," adds Shirin.
The Last Leaf: O Henry's short story, which contributes to the screenplay of 'Lootera', is well known and that puts the screenwriters under huge pressure because only innovative changes would be acceptable to the spectators. Famous stories have an impression on the readers who associate the premise with the original backdrop and this makes the adaptation a bit tricky.
The film is all set to be tightly scrutinised in less than 24 hours as it is releasing on July 5.
