Manoj Kumar was apprehended from Chiknouta, his in-law's village, at around 2:00 am from Muzaffarpur in Bihar, about 50 kms from Patna. Manoj is now being brought to Delhi on a transit remand.

More protests are planned in the capital on Saturday and security has been stepped up at the Delhi Police Headquarters. The national capital witnessed anguish, anger and helplessness on Friday as details of the rape of a 5-year-old girl emerged, shocking citizens who have been demanding stringent measures for safety of women in New Delhi, where barely months ago the rape of a 23-year-old paramedical student sparked public fury.

The girl was raped and brutalised for four days in captivity in the capital's Gandhi Nagar area. The youth was arrested by a team from Delhi Police with the help of local police. The girl is being treated at AIIMS and doctors say she is stable and responding to antibiotics. The next 48 hours will be crucial. Doctors said that her genitals were mutilated and several foreign objects were found in her abdominal cavity.

The accused, who had come to Chiknouta by a train, was traced after tracking his mobile phone location, police sources said. Kumar had married recently and his wife had come to her parent's place two days back. The accused, working as labourer in Delhi, is a native of Bharphua village of the district.

Kumar allegedly raped five-year-old girl at his rented accommodation. The girl and her family stayed in the same building where Kumar lived. Delhi Police has registered a case and slapped charges of kidnapping, sexual assault, attempt to murder and unnatural sex on Kumar, who allegedly confined the girl in his room for at least two days.
