Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram director P Parameswaran alleged that the political stance of the Muslim League had been encouraging Islamic extremism in the state.
Inaugurating the ‘Jana Jagratha yathra’ organised by the Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP) here on Monday, he said that it was regretful that the Muslim League’s had failed to intervene and discourage the fundamentalist forces in the Muslim community.
‘’Muslim League’s approach to national symbols is in a manner that could disintegrate national unity. Their reluctance to accept the traditions of the country was because of their wish to keep the Muslim community away from the national mainstream” he said.
He also opined that a large section of the Muslim community which are peace-loving and against fundamentalism are under pressure from fundamentalist elements. He said that Union Minister E Ahmed’s statement that it was the CPM which was responsible for Islamic fundamentalism was correct in a way. E M S Namboodiripad and the CPM were responsible for the formation of Malapuuram district which was the first instance of succumbing to the pressure of communal forces, he said. He pointed out that while Baffakki Thangal directly intervened to stop the conflicts between Hindus and Muslims following the formation of Malappuram district, E Ahmed had thwarted the attempt to organise a Hindu-Muslim dialogue recently.
“If such a dialogue had taken place, the Marad riots would not have happened”, Parameswaran said. ABVP state secretary M Aneesh Kumar made the introductory address. Yathra convener K V Narayanan presided.
