Lashkar operative Madani sent to 7-day police custody
Police officials have confirmed that Madani was tasked to recruit Naxals.

New Delhi: Lashkar-e-Toiba operative Mohammad Omar Madani, who was arrested earlier this month, has been remanded to seven days in police custody.

Police officials have confirmed that Madani was tasked to recruit Naxals from Jharkhand and to send them to Pakistan for training.

During the hearing Madani also told the Delhi court of Metropolitan Magistrate Manish Yaduvanshi that he had committed "some mistakes".

The court appointed advocate Bakshish Singh as amicus curiae, who agreed to defend Madani, after the Lashkar operative told the court that he did not have a lawyer.

So far no link has been established between Madani and the blasts in Lucknow and Jaipur.

Police have found out that Rs 25 lakh were taken out of his bank account in Nepal and are now trying to trace that money.

Police have also got details of his passports and visas which he had used to go to Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir.

He is also suspected to be close to Hafiz Saeed, the founder of Lashkar front Jamaat-ud-Dawa.

Madani was arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police near Qutub Minar area in New Delhi on June 4.
