Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan on Friday approached the Kerala High Court seeking to quash the first information report(FIR) filed by Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) and the criminal proceedings initiated in connection with the TK Soman land allotment case.
Achuthanandan, the first accused in the case and the then Chief Minister, had illegally allotted 2.33 acres of government land in Kasaragod to Soman. Achuthanandan submitted that the FIR was registered after a farcical inquiry. Though a representation was submitted before the Director of Vigilance for a fair and transparent investigation by an officer belonging to the rank of Director General of Police, no action has been taken. So he also sought a directive to the Vigilance Director to consider the representation and pass the order.
“The case has been initiated maliciously by the leaders of the present ruling coalition in the state with the ulterior motive to wreak vengeance on me. I had taken a strong stand in the icecream parlour sex scandal case, Idamalayar and Palmolien cases. The move is because of the personal grudge of the leaders of the ruling coalition who were affected by the prosecution of the cases,” he submitted.
If the Vigilance is allowed to file the final report without seriously examining the representation, it would cause irreparable loss to the reputation of Achuthanandan, the petition said. He contended that he was wrongly arraigned in the case.
On May 2006, the then Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had taken a decision to assign the land after considering the various levels of the land assignment authorities.
