Rout was arrested on January 5 from Puducherry by a special squad of the Jagatsinghpur police and brought here.In his statement Subhas told the police that he had worked in a firm, Sidhharth Constructions, and also dealt in fire crackers. “I was paid an advance of Rs 1,000 by the general manager of the company, Surendra Gochhayat, and BJD worker of Nabadia village Prashant Swain for bursting crackers during the rally of Biju Workers’ Union (BWU),” Subhas said. All was fine till the rally reached a marketplace at Kujang, said Subhas. According to Subhas, he ignited a rocket which was supposed to leave the card containing the names of BJD leaders Devashish Samantray and Bishnu Dash in the air.But the push bomb did not take off and exploded in the van carrying crackers. Subhas too was injured in the incident. Subhas admitted before the police that he had fled to Cuttack for treatment. Apart from death of four persons, four others were injured in the November 17 incident.Meanwhile, the bereaved families of Kothiasahi under Kujang police limits have demanded action against BJD leaders involved, failing which they have threatened to paralyse the government machinery. However, Gochhayat has termed it is as a means to tarnish his image and that of his agency. “We have not employed him in our agency and I have not identified him. He is not a member of BWU either, so there is no question of engaging him in BWU rally,” he added.
