BANGALORE/BELGAUM: Activists of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) on Thursday staged a dharna in front of Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda’s official residence demanding action against Belgaum Mayor Manda Balekundri for her anti-Kannada stand and also the arrest of the forum Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) workers under the Goonda Act.Around 100 workers who had gathered in front of the chief minister’s residence raised slogans against the mayor and deputy mayor. They also demanded superseding of the Belgaum City Corporation immediately.In the meantime, police intervened and took the activists of the KRV in custody and released them later.Meanwhile, Pro-Kannada outfits in Bellary on Thursday continued their protests against the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES), which burnt an effigy of Jnanpith awardee Chandrashekhar Kambar a day ago. KRV activists burnt an MES effigy at Channamma Circle and marched to the deputy commissioner’s office in a procession. KRV leader Mahantesh Ranagattimath told Express, “The MES, by burning an effigy of Chandrashekar Kambar, have hurt the feelings of Kannadigas,” he said.
