THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Additional Chief Secretary K Jayakumar handed over the probe report of the Kozhikode police firing to the State Government, which according to sources had nothing concrete against ACP K Radhakrishna Pillai. However, it is learnt that the report suggested the transfer of the police officer from the present location and also recommended a departmental inquiry.Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told mediapersons at the cabinet briefing here on Wednesday that he had received the report but was reluctant to disclose any details regarding it.“The State Government has received the report and the government will look it. The details regarding the report will be announced in the Assembly,’’ he said. Chandy did not even answer whether the report would be tabled in the Assembly on Thursday. With the Opposition mounting pressure on the Government by carrying out protests within and outside the Assembly for the suspension of ACP K Radhakrishna Pillai, the State Government based on the report will get the option of suspension pending inquiry. The report said that the shots fired were not with an intention to harm the students but to disburse them in order to take the injured policemen to the hospital. The report submitted by DGP Jacob Punoose earlier had also claimed that Pillai fired shots in an unavoidable situation in order to take the injured policemen to the hospital. Though there was no written permission from the Tahasildar, the report said that he was aware of the situation prevailing in the region. Jayakumar’s report, it is learnt, more or less justifies the report submitted by the DGP. According to the DGP’s report, the police was forced to open fire in order to bring the situation under control and to prevent any further violence. In the report handed over to Chandy, the DGP found that the ACP had used his service revolver as per the service rules. The protests in Kozhikode had created a situation which warranted police firing, the report had said. Opposition leader V S Achuthanandhan had stated that the report of the DGP on Kozhikode firing was a sham. The Opposition had announced intensification of its protests until Radakrishna Pillai was suspended. The recent ruckus inside the Assembly were also on the same issue.
