Kolkata: The Special Task Force of the Kolkata Police has arrested a fake currency racket operator who is believed to be a Pakistani.

They also confiscated ten lakh rupees worth of fake currency from him.

Mohammad Sarfaraz ilyas, also called Yaqub, was nabbed from the Watgunj police station area in the south-western fringes of the city on Saturday.

Preliminary investigations revealed that he operated out of Dhaka and Karachi, and could be printing several crores worth of fake notes each month.

Yaqub was earlier arrested in 2005 from Kolkata and had fled the country after his release on bail.

Police said that he could be pumping fake notes in India to the tune of several crores each month and used sophisticated technology to print them.
