Going in for a major expansion, the Kerala-based KIMS Hospital will be investing Rs 500 crore in the next 2-3 years to become a 2000-bed hospital chain. The group has acquired two hospitals during the last quarter in Kottayam and Kollam, making it a 1000-bed hospital.

Both these hospitals would be fully functional within 4 months, KIMS Chairman and Managing Director M I Sahadulla told reporters in Kochi. There is a plan to start one more hospital in Thiruvananthapuram and one or two hospitals in northern Kerala.

Apart from that, plan is also to acquire a hospital in Kozhikode, he added. There are also plans to set up Wellness Centres in Kuruvankanam in the state capital and at nearby Kakkanad besides 10 similar centres in other parts of the state.

Sahadulla said KIMS Kochi has secured accreditation of the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International (ACHSI) which would be presented tomorrow by David Holly, Australian Consul General to South India.

The International accreditation would go a long way in helping the state in attracting more patients from abroad. Last year, 35,000 foreign patients were treated at KIMS, he said. "There is a lot of scope for Medical Tourism, E M Najeeb, Executive Director of KIMS Hospital, said.
