AMALAPURAM: The body of 12-year-old Gokavarapu Naga Vivek, kidnapped near his home here while on way to school after lunch-break on Tuesday, was found in bushes near an engineering college at Korangi on Friday morning.Dangeti Ravichand, a third-year engineering student at Yanam, abducted Vivek on Tuesday and killed him on the same day evening and thrown his body into the bushes after demanding a ransom of Rs 5 lakh. He was arrested in Visakhapatnam in the wee hours of Friday.Relatives and friends of Vivek's father Gokavarapu Srinivasa Rao staged a dharna for three hours in the town, demanding an eye for an eye and death for the killer. Speaking with Express, in-charge superintendent of police T.Ramakrishna Murthi said Ravichand had taken Vivek to the beachnear Kakinada after kidnapping him from Amalapuram. Later he asked the boy to go with him to the city but the boy resisted.The youth then took the boy to Korangi,strangulated him to death and thrown the body into the bushes near the engineering college. He phoned the boy's father and again demanded Rs 5 lakh.Realising the futility of his demand, he then went to Visakhapatnam where he was nabbed, the SP said.Ravichand used the bike of his friend G Kartik to abduct Vivek to clear the heavy debts he landed in because of his vices and betting on cricket matches.The accused was produced in the court and remanded for 14 days while autopsy was conducted on the victim's body at government general hospital at Kakinada and the body was handed over to the parents.The Gokavarapu and Dangeti families had been neighbours at Pulletikurru near Amalapuram before both families shifted to Amalapuram and continued their friendship. The accused is studying third-year mechanical engineering at Regency Engineering College in Yanam. Three inspectors, five sub-inspectors and 50 constables searched for the accused for five days.
