In what could be a plot straight out of a thriller, a boy who was kidnapped on Thursday, managed to give the slip to his captors on the same day and was brought home on Friday.
The boy, Sriram (15), a eleventh standard student of Vijayantha Modern Higher Secondary School, was kidnapped by two people on Thursday evening around 4:15 near a tea shop located close to the Jagjeevan Ram statue, near the heavy vehicle tank factory in Avadi. He was taken by his captors in a Scorpio SUV towards Red Hills and was assaulted on his face and shoulder.
Luckily for Sriram, the kidnappers decided to halt the vehicle, apparently to wash their face, at Karanodai Sungavadi village on the way. Seizing the opportunity, the boy managed to make a quick escape.
He raised cries for help at the top of his voice and ran pell-mell, only to reach a tea shop located nearby. He explained his predicament to the stunned stall owner, who with the help of some locals, dispatched him to the Kavaraipettai Police Station, where he was immediately administered first aid.
A manhunt was launched for the kidnappers who remain unidentified. From then on, it was a homecoming of sorts for Sriram, who was sent back to the T-7 Tank Factory Police Station in Avadi, where a complaint was filed. The boy was reunited with his parents, Srinivasan and Thiruvengatapriya around Friday noon. A police official told Express that when questioned about the episode, Sriram could not remember much.
Actor Not Involved
Avadi Tank Factory Police Inspector Abdul Lathif ruled out reports of an actor’s hand in the kidnap. He said that Kumar, a small-time Tamil actor, had sold his house in Avadi to Srinivasan eight years ago and was presently residing as a tenant in its terrace. Ravi was constructing a house nearby, which got delayed, due to which relations between the two had soured. Srinivasan wanted Ravi to leave soon, and the two had exchanged many a heated arguments.
