KOZHIKODE: K A Rauf, the estranged brother-in-law of Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty, on Thursday announced his entry into the political arena through Indian National League (INL). “This field is something new in which I have no previous experience. Leaders of INL approved the entry and I will attend a public meeting on January 15 in Malappuram district,” said Rauf at a press conference here on Thursday.INL leaders have good integrity and the party has a chance to acquire the support of the Muslim community in Kerala in the current political scenario, said Rauf, in reply to a question on why he is joining the INL. “There are no differences in the party and I don’t think that the CPM also has any objections about the entry,” he added.Rauf said that he was offered no post in INL and the prime purpose is to work for the party. “There is no need for political support in the ice-cream parlour case. There is no such intention to get a political backing for the legal battle in the case though the INL will support the fight,” he added. Asked whether he had the blessings of Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan for his entry into politics, Rauf said he had mentioned his decision to Achuthandandan and other political leaders sometime ago.Abdul Aziz, former general secretary of National Secular Conference, who raised serious allegations that Kunhalikutty had scuttled the sex scandal case by influencing the victims and witnesses to retract their statement in the ice cream case also, had joined INL recently.P V Hamza, a former state vice-president of the National Secular Conference, who had quit the party to join the INL was also present at the press conference.
