Partymen are miffed as group and community considerations are the only parameters being taken to decide cabinet berths...
THIRUVANATHAPURAM: Two minor tremors one in Alappuzha and the other in Thrissur rocked the state Congress leadership on Tuesday. The tremors, indicative of a powerful tsunami, are sure to give sleepless nights to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and KPCC chief Ramesh Chennithala.
With senior Congress leader V M Sudheeran coming out in the open against the exclusion of V D Satheesan from the Cabinet, an exhaust valve for the growing dissent in the Congress had been opened.Ever since the finalisation of the list of nine Congress ministers, resentment had been brewing in the Congress in taking group and community considerations as the only parameters to decide one's qualification. Sources said the secondlevel leaders of the party and the majority of party workers are also upset over the meek surrender of the party leadership before the Muslim League and the Kerala Congress(M).
Speaking at a public function in Alappuzha, Sudheeran said he would have liked to see V D Satheesan, who has wide acceptability in the civil society, in the cabinet. It would be difficult for the Congress leadership to convince the people as to why a performer like Satheesan had been left out, he added.According to sources, Satheesan is slowly emerging as a poster boy for all the disgruntled elements in the Congress. "Satheesan, who openly aligned with the 'I' group led by Ramesh Chennithala, feels ditched both by his group and by the party. He is upset that even after getting his name cleared by the high command, there were some forces who could manipulate the list,'' said a Congress leader. The move for reviving the third group, which was once led by Chennithala, G Karthikeyan and M I Shanavaz, is also on the cards. Though many see Satheesan as a potential leader of the third group, he is yet to open his mind.
