HYDERABAD: TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao has demanded the state government to hold an open debate on the Metro Rail project.“The elevated corridors pose serious threat to several historic heritage buildings in the form of defacement of some precincts and total demolition of some others. The project appears to be more of a real estate venture than a rail project," Chandrasekhar Rao said in a letter to chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. He demanded the crucial documents of the project be made available to the public and the issues be debated at an all-party meet. Pointing out alleged flaws in the project, he demanded that the government hold open discussions on detailed project report (DPR) and concessional agreement and also change the contents of agreement to protect the government land and overall interests of people. He also demanded the CM to change the alignment of corridor-2 (from Jubilee bus station to Falaknuma). Another suggestion was to construct an underground metro so that none of the important buildings would have to be demolished.
