The Karnataka government has done a u-turn on the meat ban in Bengaluru. Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has clarified that there will be no ban on meat sale during the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi.
Taking to Twitter, the Karnataka minister blamed the previous Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state for the confusion over a circular released by them.
The clarification came after Bengaluru's BJP-controlled civic body BBMP released a statement declaring a ban on meat during Ganesh Chaturthi.
Meanwhile, Punjab joined the bandwagon as it declared a ban on sale of meat in Patiala and Ludhiana. The authorities instructed meat sellers to stay shut on the Jain festival of Paryushan.
The orders states that the ban was imposed as sale of meat might hurt the religious sentiments of members of the Jain community.
