Bengaluru: The Kannada Development Authority (KDA) has written to both Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore and to HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar to stop insisting on Hindi in graduation certificates of students.
The letters come after IIM-B issued a circular among its students graduating this year to check the spelling of their names in Hindi.

S.G. Siddaramaiah, Chairman, Kannada Development Authority, called the proposal as ‘needless’ and that it has caused unwarranted distrust in the minds of Kannadigas.
A section of students has questioned the need for such a measure. They argue that if anything the certificates should be bilingual, which is in the mother tongue and English.
In a statement, IIM-B said there will be no imposition and the issue is being addressed internally.
“We are happy to have received various views and opinions, some of which are not in favour. The Institute wishes to reiterate the assurance given to all internal stakeholders, including the students, that there will be no imposition, and any concern shall be promptly addressed internally. There are no protests and we shall internally reach out to anyone who has a concern,” the statement said.
