THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ‘Kalpatha-2011’, the national conference on the theme ‘Business Innovation: the New Age Survival Mantra’ organised by the Department of Business Administration of the College of Engineering Trivandrum (CET) was inaugurated by the vice-chairman of Kerala State Higher Education Council T P Sreenivasan, the guest of honour, by lighting the lamp at the Travancore Hall of Technopark here on Friday.Director of Technical Education, J Letha presided over the function. Principal of the CET V Gopakumar, Prof G L Valsala, PG Dean, CET, Prof S Sivakumar, head of the department of Business Administration and student coordinator Chacko Panicker spoke. The inaugural ceremony was followed by paper presentation by experts in the industry. Sandhya Shekhar, CEO of IIT-Madras Research Park, in her presentation on ‘Business Innovation: Exploring the Student Dimension’ expounded on the relevance of innovation in collaborating education and industry. In the presentation ‘Thoughts on Entrepreneurship,’ Suri Amarnath, CEO and MD of Thought line Technologies, highlighted the inspiration and hurdles of starting a firm. K Padmanabhan, VP and member of TCS Corporate Technology Board, talked on the topic, ‘Managing Innovation: An Enterprise Perspective’. N Ganesh Prabhu, Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship of IIM Bangalore, speaking on the topic ‘Creating Effective New Business Models’, discussed the ways to create effective new business models.On Saturday, the concluding day of the conference, delegates will make presentations based on the topic ‘Virtual Organisation: The Present Indian Scenario’. A cash award of Rs 7,500 will be awarded for the best paper to be presented. Following this, there will be a management quiz at the CETAA Hall on the College campus, which will give a cash award of Rs 2,500 to the winning team.
