CHENNAI: ‘I am Kalam’ - specially screened for underprivileged children commemorating with World Literacy Day- A Joint initiative by Indian Oil Corporation and Smile Foundation After a very successful nationwide theatrical release, ‘I am Kalam’ has set off its next phase of journey towards the primary objective – sensitise the privileged masses about the plight of the needy and to make underprivileged masses aware of their rights. Towards this objective, the film was screened in Chennai for children for World Literacy Day. The screening was organised jointly by Smile Foundation and IOC on September 11, for 300 children of the low income group customers of IOCL. Smile Foundation’s development initiatives in Chennai include education for underprivileged children and livelihood training for marginalised adolescent youth. ‘I am Kalam’ has so far won 1 National Award and 11 international awards and is the first ever feature film to be produced by a development organisation – Smile Foundation. The story of the film revolves around the struggles of a child inspired by former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and his continuous effort to surpass the boundaries of reality. Through this film, Smile Foundation is trying to reach out to people to support the movement of educating every child in India to secure a better future. On the joint initiative, G Sivaraman, Chief Retail Sales Manager, IOCL observed “IOCL recognises its corporate social responsibility towards the society and is proud to be associated with Smile foundation, New Delhi in creating awareness among the masses,on the need for helping every underprivileged child to get education and contribute to nation building activity .”
