New Delhi: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh - while praising Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) as one of the best institutions in India – said that sedition charges on some university student are not a subject of debate in Lok Sabha as the matter is in court.
He said, "Our government believes that JNU is a centre of excellence and not a centre of anti-national activities. Freedom of expression is everyone's right but there should be a limit to everything. I would like to clarify that there was no interference of government in JNU row. I assure the house that no innocent will be punished or harassed by the Police."
Referring to Union HRD minister Smriti Irani's concern over the ill thought (anti-India slogans) of some students in India, Singh said, "The speech by Smriti Irani ji is not just an eye opener for the Lok Sabha but for the entire nation too."
On the context of the Patiala House Court incident, he said, the police have already looking in the matter and I promise that the guilty will be punished.
