Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Yasin Malik was admitted to a hospital in a critical condition after he was allegedly attacked by a legislator's escort in Srinagar on Saturday.
Giving details, JKLF spokesman Tahir Mir said Malik was on his way to Dalgate from his residence at Maisuma in a car when the vehicle was caught in a traffic jam near the Banquet Hall on the Maulana Azad road on Saturday afternoon.
He said that a legislator from Rajpora in south Kashmir, Syed Bashir, was also caught in the traffic jam.
Soon his escort got down to make the way for the MLA's cavalcade and entered into an argument with Malik and those accompanying him, the spokesman added.
The spokesman said despite efforts to pacify them, the MLA's escort turned violent and brutally attacked Malik. However, he was rescued by the people and the police.
The separatist has been admitted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Police Control Room hospital. His condition was stated to be critical, he added.
The spokesman said Malik's face has sustained severe injuries in the attack. A complaint has been lodged with the Kothi Bagh Police Station.
