BHUBANESWAR: The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Committee has added six more examination centres to accommodate the increasing number of candidates. Against 175 centres last year, the JEE will be held across 181 centres this time. As many as 151 of them are in the State while the rest are outside. Around one lakh candidates will take the test this year against 84,000 in 2011. “I think the relaxation in eligibility norms and inclusion of more subjects as third optional are the reasons behind a growing number of aspirants,” Vice-Chairman Dr Sitaram Mohapatra said. Of the one lakh applicants, 68,000 will be vying for engineering subjects while the rest will compete for MBBS programme. Mohapatra said an increase in the number of candidates may help address the issue of large-scale vacancies in engineering colleges. The JEE is scheduled for May 6.
