CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has dismissed as withdrawn, a writ petition filed by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa against former chief minister M Karunanidhi, to pave the way for withdrawal of a defamation case filed by the latter against the former in an incident in 2006.Originally, Jayalalithaa, in November 2006, issued a statement on the issue relating to installation of MGR statue in Parliament complex in New Delhi. She had alleged that Karunanidhi was purposely delaying the installation due to jealousy.Karunanidhi filed a defamation case against Jayalalithaa in January, 2007. Challenging this, Jayalalithaa filed a writ petition in the Madras HC in the same year and the same was pending. To facilitate the present government to withdraw the original defamation complaint against Jayalalithaa, the present petition was filed in the High Court. Her counsel A Navaneethakrishnan prayed the court to permit him to withdraw the petition.
