Jayalalithaa Remembered on Twitter, Celebs and Politicians Pay Tribute

President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders cutting across the political spectrum paid rich tributes after news broke of Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa's death on Monday night.

President Mukherjee tweeted that Jayalalitha will be remembered for her contribution to the development of Tamil Nadu.

PM Modi tweeted that her connect with citizens and her concern for the welfare of the poor and marginalised will be a source of inspiration

Paying tributes to Jayalalithaa, Home Minister Rajnath Singh appealed to people of Tamil Nadu to remain calm.

Nitish Kumar termed the demise of Jayalalithaa as sad and declared one-day mourning in his state.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee also tweeted terming th death of Jayalalithaa as a big loss.

Jayalalitha had a massive cardiac arrest on Sunday evening.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also tweeted late evening and expressed grief on Jayalalithaa's death.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi expressed grief on Jaya's death and tweeted that the people have lost a great leader.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi, while condoling Jayalalithaa's death, said, "I am deeply grieved to learn the passing of Selvi J Jayalalithaa.

"Selvi Jayalalithaa lived her entire life with the same indomitable courage with which she battled her illness. As the leader of AIADMK and four-time Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, she had a unique and deep empathy with the needs and hopes of the people, and put in place policies that immeasurably improved their lives.

"Whether it was her welfare schemes for the rural and urban poor, her swift relief measures in the aftermath of tsunami, or her vision of Tamil Nadu's industrial development, her leadership qualities and administratively abilities were truly outstanding," Sonia said.

Sonia hailed her as a "towering figure in our national and political life, who won admiration across the political spectrum for the intrepid spirit with which she faced the ups and downs of her life in politics."

Actor Shatrughan Sinha said the passing away of the iconic Amma is a huge loss for TN and the Nation.

Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan also expressed sadness over the passing away of Jayalalithaaji.

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan tweeted that he is deeply grieved at the passing of a strong woman.
