TIRUCHY: The initial euphoria of DMK workers who attended the public meeting addressed by their leader M Karunanidhi, after hearing about grant of bail to former minister KN Nehru, slowly gave way to disappointment, as it was known he will not be able to attend the meeting.As soon as news of bail to Nehru was received, the DMK cadre burst crackers and celebrated and expected a dramatic appearance of their regional satrap in the stage along with Karunanidhi and party treasurer MK Stalin.However, Stalin, who broke the news of grant of bail to Nehru, during his speech, added that Nehru could not make it to the meeting, since he was being taken to Cuddalore prison to complete some formalities.The enthusiasm waned suddenly and the euphoria died out. Immediately, a slow drizzle started and the crowd started dispersing evenwhile Karunanidhi was addressing the crowd.Even as the DMK leader was challenging the Chief Minister on Anna Arivalayam, party cadres, who were sitting behind were seen discussing other things loudly and sharing jokes, much to the dismay of a few elders who were trying to hear Karunanidhi’s views. The crowd was not huge and the response too was muted. When Karunanidhi finished his speech, at least half of the crowd had melted.
