KOTTAYAM: The path of violence, which the Jacobite sect has taken without abiding by the court orders and breaching compromise clauses, will trigger serious consequences, said Kandanadu East diocese Metropolitan Thomas Mar Athanasius. The move to close down the churches by deliberately creating violence is a challenge to the judicial system, he said.“Church trustee Fr Johns Abraham Konat, who came to Mammalssery Mar Michael church to offer Holy Mass, was attacked and his car was destroyed. The police were also attacked. As per the Supreme Court order in 1995, the two sects in the Mammalassery church had accepted the Constitution of 1934 and acknowledged the administrative system of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church,” he said.“The agreement was presented in the court and gained decree over it. Though, it was challenged in the High Court in 2010, the court dismissed the plea and upheld the agreement.”“The Jacobites are protesting in front of the church and hindering worships by preventing priests, who were legally conducting prayers, and violating sub-court ban,” he said. They are trying to close down the church by creating unwanted law and order issues, he said, and asked the government bring the culprits to book.
