KOCHI: Civil Supplies Minister T M Jacob held a discussion with the district officials on the developmental issues here on Thursday. Excise Minister K Babu and PWD Minister V K Ebrahimkunju were also present during the discussion.Jacob said that the work on the six bridges under the 100-days programme would be inaugurated in the coming days.The Minister also gave directives to District Collector P A Sheik Pareeth to conduct meetings with the officials concerned regarding the completion of the JNNURM project.During the discussions, the officials expressed concern over the surcharge levied on the farmers who were granted free electricity. The Minister said that the issue would be brought to the government's notice and a decision would be taken soon.He also promised that the application to start wood-based industries in the district would be considered. Referring to the absence of doctors in government hospitals, he said it was mainly owing to their unwillingness to work in rural areas.He ordered the heads of various departments in the district to submit reports on the functioning of their departments to the District Collector in three days.
