HYDERABAD: The U.S. Consulate General and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will be organising a free musical concert “IMAGINE - An HIV/AIDS Free Generation”, on December 9, 2011 at 7 pm at the Lalitha Kala Thoranam, Public Gardens, Nampally. The concert will feature popular bands like Indian Ocean and Native Tongue. The programme is being organized in association with the Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society, Saksham-OU and SHARE India. Addressing the media while the announcing the concert launch, Mr. Michael Yoder, Acting Consul General, U.S. Consulate General, Hyderabad said, “The U.S. Consulate is pleased to partner for this noble cause to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS among the youth in Andhra Pradesh. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has challenged all of us to work towards creating the first AIDS-free generation. We want Indians, especially the youth, to share this goal with us.” He further added, that the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) supported evidence-driven and innovative approaches to support India’s National AIDS Control Programme. The PEPFAR program has been actively promoting the cause in India since 2005 with funds close to $120 million provided for programs aimed at HIV prevention, care, treatment and systems strengthening. Mr. C. Partha Sarathi, Project Director, Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society, appreciated the efforts saying, “I appreciate the U.S. Consulate General for coming forward to associate with us to raise awareness on this important public health program. APSACS thanks the Government of United States of America for providing technical assistance to various HIV/AIDS programs in Andhra Pradesh.”
