THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Human rights activist Binayak Sen has alleged that the establishment in India has been violating the UN norms on genocide by not allowing many communities equal access to public resources. He was delivering the DC Kizhakkemuri Memorial Lecture organised by DC Books at the AKG Hall here on Monday. These communities were being chased away from their habitats. These places are, in turn, being handed over to the corporates. These incidents are similar to those which happened in North America and Australia in the past, he said. Chhattisgarh Government is trying to depict the atrocities committed by Salwa Judum as a natural reaction to Maoist violence, Sen said. He said that he was jailed on charges of treason for his campaign in support of justice, equality and peace. It should be recalled that Mahatma Gandhi was also slapped with similar charges, Binayak Sen said. A large number of people are still languishing in Chattisgarh jail under charges of treason and provisions of the Chattisgarh Special Public Security Act. The PUCL will submit a mass petition signed by over one lakh people demanding withdrawal of laws on treason to the Parliament during the winter session. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy inaugurated the anniversary of DC Books. Poet O N V Kurup presided over the function. Information Minister K C Joseph launched the mags on wing and books on wing facilities which enabled the download of books and magazines in lap top and smart phone for reading. Writers Zacheriah, K Venu, Sara Joseph, Balachandran Chulikkad and P K Sivadas also attended the function.
