New Delhi: Composer AR Rahman created history on Monday for India by getting two Oscar awards for his music in Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire
“I want to thank everyone. The essence of the film is optimism and hope. All through my life I had the choice of love and hate…I chose love and I am here,” an elated Rahman said.
Minutes after the award, singer SP Balasubramaniam told CNN-IBN, "I feel as though I have got this award. I know this boy from his childhood and I am really proud of him. The entire country is proud of him. There is a lot everyone can learn from him."
Actor Saurabh Shukla, who also starred in Slumdog said, "You can see it on my face, I am absolutely thrilled. It is an amazing feat for us all."
While director Bharat Bala who has worked with Rahman for years said, "I have known him for the past 25 years. He is the true slumdog millionaire, coming from a simple background and has reached here with sheer hard work, commitment and has achieved all this."
"His music has an emotion which penetrates to all people, Indian or whosoever they be. Only this time he has connected to a bigger audience,” Bala added.
Singer Lata Mangeshkar said Rahman is a different kind of composer and she is proud of him.
"Congratulations to Rahman he has made the country proud. This is for the first time an Indian has won a Oscar in the music category. I am proud of Rahman. He is a different kind of composer. There is a lot of variety in his music. He gives full freedom to the singer," she said.
