Today, society and youth are not inclined towards art and it is irrelevant for the majority of people. But many people build their careers in this and earn their livelihood. In the same vein, here is the story of Mahbub Ali, who creates magic on the rocks.

Mahbub Ali is a resident of Nakrekal town, Nalgonda district, Telangana who creates art and does painting on rocks. It was his dream to make toys since childhood. He believes that his art supports his family. But youth are not giving importance to it and if this continues, this art will disappear in the future. He said that he is on a mission to present modern-day art. He said that the teacher, who recognised the talent in him, guided him forward from childhood.

While talking to Local18, he said, “I was born and brought up in Ketapalli. We were financially very poor from childhood. Venkata Ramana is my mentor who guided me and the reason why I am at this level today.”

Ali said, “With the help of my friends, a shop was set up in 2004 at Venkateswara Theaters Gully in Nakirekal town. At that time, I used to earn less and manage the shop to survive. In today’s modern times, designing through machines and occasionally carving rocks by hand, we earn fifteen thousand rupees a month and the income increases and decreases from time to time. In the past, it used to take almost a day to put a toy on a rock and give it to customers, but once the machines arrive, the work is now done in an hour. The arts are available at the same rate to the people even after the machines.”

He further said that the students who are currently studying do not show much interest in the drawing side. This is because the drawing competitions for the children in the school are not conducted properly. “In the days when we studied, drawing competitions were held on these, especially on August 15 and Republic Day,” he said.
