People often take a break from their busy schedule to enjoy amid nature for mental peace. Parks are a great place for refreshment as they are full of greenery. Recently, a park in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, has been garnering attention for more than just its pleasant atmosphere. This park not only enhances the beauty of nature but also promotes patriotism. According to reports, in an effort to inculcate patriotism among the youth while remembering the sacrifices of the freedom fighters, some social workers have built a freedom fighter memorial forest in the municipal park of Srikakulam. A resident of Srikakulam shared in an interview that the statues of freedom fighters and social activists were installed in the park with the help of donors.
Social activists have come forward with an initiative to develop a park that has been neglected by the authorities in Shantinagar Colony in Srikakulam. So they directly approached District Collector J Niwas for the development work. After getting permission from the collector, they started the development work on February 13, 2021. They received funding for the Gandhi Memorial Foundation, which has been completed. It is also raising funds to build a temple for Mahatma Gandhi in the same park.
A few donors who came to know about the Gandhi temple came forward to install the statues of the freedom fighters in the park. Statues of freedom fighters like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bal Gangadhara Tilak, Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, Jawaharlal Nehru, BR Ambedkar, Chhatrapati Shivaji, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Swami Vivekananda, and Jyotirao Phule have been installed.
Gandhi Memorial Fund member Jagannadha Naidu shared in recent media that Mahatma Gandhi was a messenger of peace and harmony. So, they have decided to establish a memorial forest of freedom fighters to spread the feeling of patriotism among the young generation. Not only visitors but also patriots come to this park in large numbers.
