JWO Pradeep A, a native of Thrissur, was among those who died in the helicopter crash along with Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat and others yesterday at Coonoor hills in Tamil Nadu. He was home two weeks ago as his father was hospitalised due to asthma and breathing issues.
His father was in the ICU and the whole time, Pradeep was there by his side. He joined his duty last week after his father was discharged.
Pradeep’s father is still on oxygen support at home and had not yet been informed about his son’s death. However, his mother has been informed. Kerala Revenue Minister K. Rajan had visited his house following the tragic chopper crash.
Pradeep’s wife and two children, a son aged 7 years and a daughter aged two and a half years, were staying with Pradeep. His brother had gone to Coimbatore last evening.
Pradeep had also actively participated during the flood rescue operations in Kerala.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tributes to Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 others in Delhi. Along with PM Modi, the country’s top defence brass also paid their respects to the deceased at the Palam airbase after the bodies were brought to Delhi on a C130-J Super Hercules aircraft late evening.
The 13 coffins were lined up inside a hangar at the Palam airport in presence of the family members. The C-130J Super Hercules aircraft carrying the bodies flew from the Sulur airbase to the Palam technical airport at around 7:35 pm.
